Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, crack the 4 large eggs and beat until well combined and slightly frothy (1-2 minutes).
- Add 1 cup of granulated sugar and 1/4 teaspoon of salt, whisking until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
- Pour in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and gradually add 4 cups of whole milk while whisking continuously until smooth and creamy.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
- Pour the custard mixture into the prepared baking dish and place it in the preheated oven on the middle rack.
- Bake for 45-55 minutes until the edges are set and the center is slightly jiggly but not liquid. A knife inserted in the center should come out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack for 10-15 minutes.
- Optionally, sprinkle ground nutmeg and ground cinnamon on top for garnish.
- Cut into squares or rectangles and serve warm or chilled, optionally with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
