- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- 2 tablespoons butter (for cooking)
- 1 cup apple pie filling (store-bought or homemade)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting)
- Maple syrup (for serving)
Instructions
- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, crack the 2 large eggs.
- Add 1/2 cup of milk to the bowl.
- Pour in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
- Sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg.
- If desired, add 1 tablespoon of sugar for sweetness.
- Whisk all ingredients together until well combined and smooth.
- Take your 4 slices of thick-cut bread.
- Lay the slices out on a plate or cutting board.
- Optionally, lightly toast the bread slices in a toaster or on a skillet for a minute or two.
- Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
- Add 2 tablespoons of butter to the skillet and let it melt.
- Dip one slice of bread into the batter, coating both sides well.
- Carefully place the coated slice onto the skillet. Repeat with remaining slices, avoiding overcrowding.
- Cook each slice for about 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown.
- Flip the slices and cook for another 2-3 minutes on the other side until browned.
- Transfer cooked French toast to a plate and cover with foil to keep warm.
- Place one slice of cooked French toast on a serving plate.
- Generously top with 1/4 cup of apple pie filling.
- Optionally, add another slice of French toast on top for a sandwich effect.
- Repeat for remaining slices.
