Description

Enjoy a cozy breakfast with this Apple Pie French Toast, featuring thick-cut bread soaked in a spiced egg batter and topped with warm apple pie filling. Perfect for impressing family and friends at brunch!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices of thick-cut bread (like brioche or challah)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon sugar (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons butter (for cooking)
  • 1 cup apple pie filling (store-bought or homemade)
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting)
  • Maple syrup (for serving)

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, crack the 2 large eggs.
  2. Add 1/2 cup of milk to the bowl.
  3. Pour in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  4. Sprinkle in 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg.
  5. If desired, add 1 tablespoon of sugar for sweetness.
  6. Whisk all ingredients together until well combined and smooth.
  7. Take your 4 slices of thick-cut bread.
  8. Lay the slices out on a plate or cutting board.
  9. Optionally, lightly toast the bread slices in a toaster or on a skillet for a minute or two.
  10. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  11. Add 2 tablespoons of butter to the skillet and let it melt.
  12. Dip one slice of bread into the batter, coating both sides well.
  13. Carefully place the coated slice onto the skillet. Repeat with remaining slices, avoiding overcrowding.
  14. Cook each slice for about 3-4 minutes on one side until golden brown.
  15. Flip the slices and cook for another 2-3 minutes on the other side until browned.
  16. Transfer cooked French toast to a plate and cover with foil to keep warm.
  17. Place one slice of cooked French toast on a serving plate.
  18. Generously top with 1/4 cup of apple pie filling.
  19. Optionally, add another slice of French toast on top for a sandwich effect.
  20. Repeat for remaining slices.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use whole milk or a milk alternative of your choice.
  • Feel free to adjust the sweetness by adding or omitting the sugar.
  • Serve with a dusting of powdered sugar and a drizzle of maple syrup for extra indulgence.
