  • Author: Lily
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4-6 servings 1x

Description

This Balsamic Strawberry Caprese Salad combines fresh strawberries, creamy mozzarella, and fragrant basil, all drizzled with a tangy balsamic dressing. It’s a refreshing and flavorful dish, perfect for an appetizer or light lunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 8 ounces fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 1 cup fresh basil leaves
  • 3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon honey (optional, for sweetness)

Instructions

  1. Wash the strawberries under cold water. Use a paring knife to hull the strawberries, removing the green tops and any white parts. Slice the strawberries into thin rounds or halves.
  2. Slice the fresh mozzarella cheese into rounds about 1/4 inch thick. Alternatively, use mozzarella balls (bocconcini) for a rustic look.
  3. Rinse the fresh basil leaves under cold water and pat them dry. Leave the leaves whole or tear them into smaller pieces for a more intense flavor.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together the balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil. If desired, add honey for sweetness.
  5. Add a pinch of salt and a few cracks of black pepper to the dressing. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed.
  6. On a large serving platter or individual plates, layer the salad by starting with a slice of mozzarella, followed by a slice of strawberry, and then a basil leaf. Repeat until all ingredients are used.
  7. Drizzle the balsamic dressing generously over the assembled salad, ensuring all layers are covered.
  8. Sprinkle additional salt and pepper over the top. Scatter any leftover basil leaves for added color.
  9. Let the salad sit for 10-15 minutes before serving to allow flavors to meld, or serve immediately if short on time.
  10. Serve as a refreshing appetizer, side dish for grilled meats, or a light lunch.

Notes

  • For the best flavor, use ripe, in-season strawberries.
  • Consider adding crushed red pepper flakes for heat or toasted pine nuts for crunch.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator, but enjoy fresh for the best taste.
  • To make it a meal, add grilled chicken or shrimp.
  • Experiment with different dressings like lemon vinaigrette or honey mustard.
