  • Yield: 2-4 servings 1x

Description

This Burrata with Honey and Olive Oil is a simple yet elegant appetizer that highlights the creamy richness of fresh burrata cheese. Drizzled with a sweet and savory honey-olive oil mixture, seasoned with black pepper and sea salt, and garnished with fresh basil, it’s perfect for entertaining or a cozy night in. Serve with crusty bread or crostini for a deliciously satisfying experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ball of fresh burrata cheese (about 8 ounces)
  • 2 tablespoons of high-quality extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of honey (preferably local or artisanal)
  • Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish
  • Crusty bread or crostini, for serving
  • Optional: Balsamic glaze for drizzling

Instructions

  1. Take the burrata out of the refrigerator about 30 minutes before serving to allow it to come to room temperature.
  2. Gently unwrap the burrata from its packaging, being careful as it can be delicate.
  3. Using a sharp knife, cut the burrata in half to reveal the creamy interior, or leave it whole for a dramatic presentation.
  4. In a small bowl, combine the extra virgin olive oil and honey. Adjust the ratio based on your preference for sweetness.
  5. Whisk the olive oil and honey together until well combined, creating a smooth mixture.
  6. Set the honey-olive oil mixture aside.
  7. Place the halved burrata on a serving plate.
  8. Drizzle a generous amount of the honey-olive oil mixture over the burrata.
  9. Sprinkle freshly cracked black pepper over the top.
  10. Finish with a pinch of sea salt.
  11. Tear fresh basil leaves into smaller pieces and scatter them over the burrata.
  12. Optionally, drizzle a little balsamic glaze over the top for added flavor and presentation.
  13. If using crusty bread, slice it into 1/2-inch thick pieces.
  14. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  15. Arrange the sliced bread on a baking sheet in a single layer. Optionally brush with olive oil.
  16. Bake in the preheated oven for about 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Keep an eye on it to prevent burning.
  17. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
  18. Arrange the prepared burrata on a serving platter alongside the crusty bread or crostini.
  19. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

  • For a more intense flavor, consider using a flavored olive oil, such as garlic or herb-infused.
  • This dish pairs beautifully with a light white wine or sparkling water.
