This Cheesy Christmas Tree Bread is a whimsical and delicious centerpiece perfect for holiday gatherings. With layers of gooey cheese and soft dough, it’s sure to bring smiles to your table.

Ingredients

  • Pizza Dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • Flour (for rolling out dough)
  • Yeast
  • Water
  • Salt
  • Mozzarella Cheese
  • Cheddar Cheese
  • Pepper Jack Cheese (optional)
  • Dairy-free cheese alternatives (optional)
  • Fresh Basil (optional)
  • Fresh Oregano (optional)
  • Dried Herbs (optional)
  • Garlic Powder (optional)
  • Italian Seasoning (optional)
  • Egg (for egg wash)
  • Almond Milk (for vegan egg wash)
  • Water (for vegan egg wash)
  • Cornstarch (for vegan egg wash)
  • Chopped Spinach (optional add-in)
  • Sun-dried Tomatoes (optional add-in)
  • Sautéed Mushrooms (optional add-in)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. If using homemade dough, roll it out on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thick. If using store-bought, follow the package instructions.
  3. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the dough into triangle shapes, aiming for about 12-15 triangles to form your Christmas tree.
  4. On half of each triangle, sprinkle a generous amount of shredded cheese and add any optional ingredients you desire. Fold the other half over to create a cheese-filled triangle.
  5. On a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, start placing the triangles in the shape of a Christmas tree, with the wider ends at the bottom and the points facing upwards.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together an egg (or your vegan alternative). Brush this mixture over the surface of the dough.
  7. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the bread is puffed and golden brown.
  8. Once out of the oven, let the bread cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh herbs or serve with a side of marinara sauce for dipping.
