- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, add the softened butter and beat on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 2-3 minutes).
- Add the brown sugar and granulated sugar, and beat until well combined (about 2 minutes).
- Crack in the eggs and pour in the vanilla extract. Mix on low speed until just combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture in three parts, mixing on low speed until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) with a spatula.
- Grease a 10-12 inch cast-iron skillet (or any oven-safe skillet) lightly with cooking spray or butter.
- Transfer the cookie dough into the skillet and spread it evenly across the bottom.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, until the edges are golden brown and the center is soft.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for 10-15 minutes.
- Cut the cookie into wedges or squares directly in the skillet.
- Serve warm, optionally topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
