Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 package (17.3 oz) frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)
- Optional: additional powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- In a medium mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese. Make sure it’s at room temperature for easy mixing.
- Using a hand mixer or a whisk, beat the cream cheese until it’s smooth and creamy (about 1-2 minutes).
- Add in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Continue to mix until well combined and fluffy.
- Set the cream cheese filling aside.
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- On a lightly floured surface, unfold the thawed puff pastry. Let it sit for a few minutes if it’s still cold.
- Roll out the puff pastry into a rectangle, about 1/8 inch thick.
- Cut the pastry into squares, about 4×4 inches (yielding 6-8 squares).
- Place one square of puff pastry on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the cream cheese filling into the center of the pastry square, leaving space around the edges.
- Sprinkle a few chocolate chips on top of the cream cheese filling.
- Fold the corners of the pastry square towards the center, overlapping them slightly.
- Repeat with the remaining pastry squares, filling, and chocolate chips.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and milk.
- Using a pastry brush, gently brush the egg wash over the tops of each assembled Danish.
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
- Remove the Danish from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes.
- Transfer the Danish to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Optionally, dust with additional powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
