Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 package (17.3 oz) frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)
  • Optional: additional powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a medium mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese. Make sure it’s at room temperature for easy mixing.
  2. Using a hand mixer or a whisk, beat the cream cheese until it’s smooth and creamy (about 1-2 minutes).
  3. Add in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Continue to mix until well combined and fluffy.
  4. Set the cream cheese filling aside.
  5. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  6. On a lightly floured surface, unfold the thawed puff pastry. Let it sit for a few minutes if it’s still cold.
  7. Roll out the puff pastry into a rectangle, about 1/8 inch thick.
  8. Cut the pastry into squares, about 4×4 inches (yielding 6-8 squares).
  9. Place one square of puff pastry on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  10. Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the cream cheese filling into the center of the pastry square, leaving space around the edges.
  11. Sprinkle a few chocolate chips on top of the cream cheese filling.
  12. Fold the corners of the pastry square towards the center, overlapping them slightly.
  13. Repeat with the remaining pastry squares, filling, and chocolate chips.
  14. In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and milk.
  15. Using a pastry brush, gently brush the egg wash over the tops of each assembled Danish.
  16. Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
  17. Remove the Danish from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes.
  18. Transfer the Danish to a wire rack to cool completely.
  19. Optionally, dust with additional powdered sugar before serving.
