Ingredients
Scale
- 4 medium-sized apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon sugar (optional, adjust to taste)
- Juice of 1 lemon (to prevent browning)
- Cooking spray or parchment paper (for baking)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C).
- Rinse the apples under cold water. Remove the core using an apple corer or a sharp knife. If you don’t have a corer, slice the apples into thin rounds, ensuring to remove the seeds.
- Slice the apples into thin rounds, about 1/8 inch thick, using a mandoline slicer or a sharp knife for uniform thickness.
- In a large bowl, squeeze the juice of one lemon over the apple slices and toss gently to coat.
- In a small bowl, combine ground cinnamon and sugar (if using). Adjust sugar based on your taste preference.
- Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the apple slices and toss gently to ensure even coating.
- Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or lightly spray with cooking spray.
- Lay the apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets, ensuring they do not overlap.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 1.5 to 2 hours, flipping the slices halfway through. Keep an eye on them to avoid burning.
- After 1.5 hours, check if the apple chips are crisp and break easily. If still pliable, continue baking.
- Once done, remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheets for about 10 minutes.
- Transfer cooled apple chips to an airtight container. They can be stored at room temperature for up to a week.
- Serve as a snack or with almond butter/peanut butter. Crumble over yogurt or oatmeal for added crunch.
- Try adding different spices like nutmeg or ginger to the cinnamon-sugar mixture for a unique twist.
- Package the apple chips in a cute jar or bag to share with friends and family.
Notes
- Adjust the sugar based on your sweetness preference; you can omit it for a more natural flavor.
- Ensure apple slices are of uniform thickness for even cooking.
- Store in an airtight container to maintain crispness.
