Description

Enjoy these crispy Crab Cream Cheese Wontons, filled with a delicious mix of cream cheese, crab meat, and green onions. They’re easy to make and perfect for serving as an appetizer or snack, guaranteed to impress your guests!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 6 oz crab meat, drained and shredded
  • 2 green onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 package of wonton wrappers (about 50 wrappers)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Sweet and sour sauce, for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, add the softened cream cheese. Ensure it’s very soft for easier mixing.
  2. Add the shredded crab meat, making sure to drain it well if using canned crab.
  3. Toss in the finely chopped green onions for added crunch and flavor.
  4. Sprinkle in the garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce to enhance the filling’s taste.
  5. Mix everything together with a spatula or fork until well combined, creating a smooth and creamy mixture with bits of crab and green onion.
  6. Lay out a clean surface or large cutting board for working with the wonton wrappers.
  7. Place one wonton wrapper on the surface in a diamond shape, with one point facing you.
  8. Scoop about a tablespoon of the crab filling and place it in the center of the wrapper.
  9. Moisten the edges of the wrapper with a little water using your finger or a small brush.
  10. Fold the bottom point of the wrapper up over the filling, then fold the two side points in towards the center, creating a triangle shape. Press the edges firmly to seal, and crimp with a fork if desired.
  11. Repeat the process with the remaining wonton wrappers and filling, working in batches if necessary.
  12. In a large, deep skillet or pot, pour enough vegetable oil to cover the bottom by about 1-2 inches. Heat the oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
  13. Carefully add a few wontons to the hot oil, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan. Fry in batches if needed.
  14. Fry the wontons for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Use a slotted spoon to turn them gently for even cooking.
  15. Remove the wontons from the oil and place them on a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  16. Continue frying the remaining wontons, adjusting the heat as necessary to maintain a steady frying temperature.
  17. Arrange the crispy wontons on a serving platter. Serve with sweet and sour sauce on the side, if desired.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, you can bake the wontons instead of frying them. Brush them lightly with oil and bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Feel free to customize the filling by adding other ingredients like diced bell peppers or herbs.
