Crispy Angel Cake Churro Bites: Easy & Delicious Dessert Treat

  • Author: Lily author
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Experience the delightful fusion of light, airy angel food cake transformed into crispy, golden churro bites coated in cinnamon sugar. These treats are perfect for satisfying sweet cravings or impressing guests at any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 store-bought angel food cake
  • Vegetable oil, canola oil, or sunflower oil (for frying)
  • Granulated sugar
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Optional Dipping Sauces: Chocolate sauce, Caramel sauce, Dulce de leche, Non-alcoholic liqueur glaze (powdered sugar, milk or cream, non-alcoholic flavoring syrup)

Instructions

  1. Carefully remove your angel food cake from its packaging. Using a serrated knife, gently slice the cake into approximately 1-inch thick slices, then cut those slices into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a shallow dish or a medium bowl, combine your granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Stir well to ensure the cinnamon is evenly distributed throughout the sugar.
  3. Pour enough neutral frying oil into a large, heavy-bottomed pot or a deep skillet to reach about 2-3 inches in depth. Place it over medium-high heat until the oil reaches a temperature of around 350-375°F (175-190°C).
  4. Once your oil is at the correct temperature, carefully add a small batch of angel cake cubes to the hot oil. Fry the cubes for about 1-2 minutes, turning them occasionally with a slotted spoon or spider, until they are beautifully golden brown and crispy on all sides.
  5. Using your slotted spoon, carefully remove the fried angel cake bites from the oil. Let them drain for just a few seconds on a paper towel-lined plate. While they are still warm, transfer them to your cinnamon sugar mixture and toss them gently but thoroughly to ensure every surface is coated.
  6. Continue frying the remaining angel cake cubes in small batches, draining, and coating them, until all your cake is transformed. Serve your Crispy Angel Cake Churro Bites immediately while they are warm and at their absolute crispiest.
