Ingredients
Scale
- 8 cups of Crispix cereal
- 1 cup of unsalted butter
- 2 cups of brown sugar
- ½ cup of corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- ½ teaspoon of baking soda
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). This low temperature will help the caramel coat the cereal without burning.
- Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
- In a large mixing bowl, add 8 cups of Crispix cereal, ensuring it’s evenly spread out.
- In a medium saucepan, melt 1 cup of butter over medium heat. Once melted, stir in 2 cups of brown sugar and ½ cup of corn syrup. Bring this mixture to a boil, stirring constantly, for about 2 minutes.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and ½ teaspoon of salt. Then, add ½ teaspoon of baking soda. The mixture will bubble up, so be careful!
- Pour the hot caramel over the Crispix cereal and gently stir until all the pieces are well coated.
- Spread the caramel-coated cereal onto the prepared baking sheet in an even layer. Bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes to ensure even coating and cooking.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool completely on the baking sheet. Once cool, break it into clusters for serving.

Keywords: Be patient while stirring the caramel for a smoother texture. Watch the baking time closely to avoid over-baking. If adding nuts or chocolate chips, do so after the caramel has cooled slightly. Experiment with flavors like cinnamon or almond extract for a twist.
