Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F or 43°C)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
- Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the flour mixture along with the olive oil. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Add more flour if the dough is too sticky.
- Form the dough into a ball and place it in a greased bowl, turning to coat. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter.
- Remove from heat and stir in the minced garlic, oregano, parsley, and red pepper flakes. Let sit for a few minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- After the first rise, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick.
- Cut the dough into strips about 1 inch wide.
- Place the strips on a greased baking sheet, leaving space between each stick.
- Cover the breadsticks with a towel and let them rise for another 20-30 minutes.
- After the second rise, brush the tops with the garlic butter mixture and sprinkle with Parmesan cheese if desired.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and brush with any remaining garlic butter.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving. Best enjoyed warm.
- Serve with marinara, garlic dipping sauce, or ranch dressing.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven to regain crispiness.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, increase the amount of red pepper flakes.
- Feel free to experiment with different herbs or cheeses to customize the flavor.
