Description

A quick and flavorful Garlic Chicken Lo Mein that’s packed with tender chicken, fresh veggies, and perfectly chewy noodles tossed in a rich, garlicky sauce. Inspired by classic Chinese takeout, this dish is easy to make at home and perfect for busy weeknights or anytime you crave comforting Asian flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs, thinly sliced

1 tbsp soy sauce

1 tsp cornstarch

1 tsp sesame oil

8 oz lo mein noodles (or spaghetti)

2 tbsp vegetable oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup sliced bell peppers

1 cup shredded carrots

1 cup snap peas or snow peas

3 green onions, sliced

1 tsp fresh ginger, grated (optional)

For the sauce:

3 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp oyster sauce

1 tbsp hoisin sauce

1 tsp brown sugar

1/4 cup chicken broth or water

1 tsp toasted sesame oil

Instructions

  • Marinate chicken with soy sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil for 5–10 minutes.

  • Cook noodles according to package directions. Drain and toss with a little sesame oil.

  • Whisk together all sauce ingredients in a small bowl.

  • Heat oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook chicken until browned and cooked through. Remove and set aside.

  • In the same pan, sauté garlic (and ginger, if using) until fragrant.

  • Add bell peppers, carrots, and snap peas; stir-fry 3–4 minutes until crisp-tender.

  • Return chicken to the pan, pour in the sauce, and simmer 1–2 minutes until slightly thickened.

  • Add noodles and green onions, toss gently, and heat through. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Swap chicken for shrimp, tofu, or beef for variety.

  • Add chili flakes or Sriracha for heat.

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat with a splash of water.

  • Use gluten-free soy sauce to make this gluten-free.
