Description

This Juicy Cinnamon Roll Apple Cake combines the comforting flavors of cinnamon rolls with the fruity sweetness of fresh apples. It’s a delightful dessert that will warm your heart and home.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 34 firm, tart apples (like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup softened butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 23 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of warm milk (about 110°F) with 2 tablespoons of sugar and 2 teaspoons of active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter and let it cool slightly. Add it to the yeast mixture, along with 1 egg and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Stir to combine.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Gradually add this to the wet mixture until a dough forms.
  4. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface. Knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. While the dough is rising, peel and slice 3-4 apples. In a bowl, mix the apple slices with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, 1/2 cup of sugar, and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon. Set aside.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out into a large rectangle (about 16×12 inches) on a floured surface.
  7. Spread a layer of softened butter (about 1/4 cup) over the dough. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the butter, then layer the spiced apple slices on top.
  8. Starting from one long side, carefully roll the dough into a tight log. Slice the log into 12 equal pieces and place them in a greased baking dish.
  9. Cover the rolls with a cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes while you preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. While they bake, prepare the icing by mixing 1 cup of powdered sugar with 2-3 tablespoons of milk until smooth.
  11. Once baked, remove the cake from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Drizzle the icing over the warm cake and serve it warm or at room temperature.
