Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet dry yeast
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup melted butter
- 2 eggs
- 3–4 apples
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons cinnamon
- a pinch of nutmeg
- 1/4 cup softened butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 4 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 packet of dry yeast, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon of salt.
- In a separate bowl, warm 1 cup of milk until lukewarm, then add 1/2 cup of melted butter. Let it cool slightly before adding 2 eggs. Stir until combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Transfer it to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, peel and slice 3-4 apples.
- In a bowl, mix the apples with 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 2 tablespoons of cinnamon, and a pinch of nutmeg. Set aside.
- Once the dough has doubled, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread 1/4 cup of softened butter over the dough, then evenly sprinkle the apple mixture on top.
- Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut the log into 12 equal pieces.
- Line a round cake pan with parchment paper and arrange the slices, cut side up, in the pan. They should fit snugly but not be overcrowded.
- Cover the pan with a kitchen towel and let the rolls rise for another 30 minutes while you preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the cake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown. If the tops brown too quickly, cover them lightly with aluminum foil.
- Once done, allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
- For a simple glaze, whisk together 1 cup of powdered sugar with 2-3 tablespoons of milk until smooth, then drizzle it over the warm cake.

Keywords: Consider experimenting with different fruits like pears or berries. You can prepare the dough a day in advance and let it rise in the fridge overnight for deeper flavor. This cake pairs beautifully with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
