Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef (preferably 80/20 for flavor)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- 1 cup cooked rice (white or brown, your choice)
- 1 cup steamed broccoli (or any vegetable of your choice)
- Sesame seeds (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.
- Add the ground beef to the skillet. Use a spatula to break it apart as it cooks. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and cooked through.
- Drain any excess fat from the skillet to keep the dish from becoming too greasy.
- Pour in the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Stir until the beef is well coated in the sauce. Let it simmer for about 2-3 minutes to meld the flavors.
- While the beef simmers, prepare your rice. Rinse 1 cup of rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice with 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil over high heat.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for about 18-20 minutes for white rice or 40-45 minutes for brown rice. Avoid lifting the lid during cooking.
- After the cooking time, remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
- While the rice is cooking, steam your broccoli or any other vegetables. Fill a pot with about an inch of water and bring it to a boil.
- Place the broccoli in a steamer basket, cover, and steam for about 5-7 minutes until tender but still bright green. Alternatively, microwave the broccoli in a bowl with a splash of water, covered, for about 3-4 minutes.
- Place a generous scoop of rice at the bottom of each bowl.
- Spoon the flavorful ground beef mixture over the rice, ensuring to include some sauce.
- Add a portion of the steamed broccoli (or your chosen vegetables) on the side of the beef.
- Sprinkle chopped green onions and sesame seeds over the top for added flavor and crunch.
