Savor a quick and tasty Korean Ground Beef Bowl, featuring seasoned ground beef in a savory sauce, served over rice with steamed vegetables. Ideal for busy weeknights!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (preferably 80/20 for flavor)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • 1 cup cooked rice (white or brown, your choice)
  • 1 cup steamed broccoli (or any vegetable of your choice)
  • Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Use a spatula to break it apart as it cooks. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the beef is browned and cooked through.
  3. Drain any excess fat from the skillet to keep the dish from becoming too greasy.
  4. Pour in the soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and red pepper flakes. Stir until the beef is well coated in the sauce. Let it simmer for about 2-3 minutes to meld the flavors.
  5. While the beef simmers, prepare your rice. Rinse 1 cup of rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  6. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice with 2 cups of water. Bring to a boil over high heat.
  7. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for about 18-20 minutes for white rice or 40-45 minutes for brown rice. Avoid lifting the lid during cooking.
  8. After the cooking time, remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for an additional 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
  9. While the rice is cooking, steam your broccoli or any other vegetables. Fill a pot with about an inch of water and bring it to a boil.
  10. Place the broccoli in a steamer basket, cover, and steam for about 5-7 minutes until tender but still bright green. Alternatively, microwave the broccoli in a bowl with a splash of water, covered, for about 3-4 minutes.
  11. Place a generous scoop of rice at the bottom of each bowl.
  12. Spoon the flavorful ground beef mixture over the rice, ensuring to include some sauce.
  13. Add a portion of the steamed broccoli (or your chosen vegetables) on the side of the beef.
  14. Sprinkle chopped green onions and sesame seeds over the top for added flavor and crunch.
