- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup pure maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon maple extract (optional)
- 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, maple syrup, and maple extract (if using) to the butter-sugar mixture. Beat on low speed until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. If using, fold in the nuts.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes.
- Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to portion out the dough, rolling each portion into a ball and placing them on the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie.
- Gently press down on each cookie ball with the back of a fork or your fingers to flatten them slightly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
- Move the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
- If desired, dust the cooled cookies with powdered sugar for a decorative touch.
- Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
- Enjoy your maple cookies with a cup of coffee or tea!
