Description

Enjoy these soft and chewy Maple Cookies, bursting with rich maple flavor and a hint of brown sugar. Optional nuts add a delightful crunch, making them a perfect sweet treat for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract (optional)
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy (about 3-5 minutes).
  4. Add the egg, vanilla extract, maple syrup, and maple extract (if using) to the butter-sugar mixture. Beat on low speed until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined. If using, fold in the nuts.
  6. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate the dough for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  8. Use a cookie scoop or tablespoon to portion out the dough, rolling each portion into a ball and placing them on the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches of space between each cookie.
  9. Gently press down on each cookie ball with the back of a fork or your fingers to flatten them slightly.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden.
  11. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
  12. Move the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
  13. If desired, dust the cooled cookies with powdered sugar for a decorative touch.
  14. Store the cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
  15. Enjoy your maple cookies with a cup of coffee or tea!

Notes

  • Use Quality Maple Syrup: The flavor of your cookies will greatly depend on the quality of the maple syrup you use. Opt for pure maple syrup for the best taste.
