Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup crushed Oreo cookies (about 10–12 cookies)
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk (for icing)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for icing)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine the warm milk (about 110°F or 43°C) and the granulated sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
- In another bowl, mix the melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Once the yeast mixture is frothy, add it to the wet ingredients and stir to combine.
- Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough begins to form.
- Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- In a small bowl, combine the crushed Oreo cookies, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick (approximately 12×18 inches).
- Brush melted butter over the rolled-out dough and sprinkle the Oreo filling mixture evenly over it.
- Starting from one long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log.
- Use a sharp knife or dental floss to slice the log into 12 equal pieces.
- Place the sliced rolls in a greased baking dish, cover with a towel, and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
- In a medium bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract, mixing until creamy.
- If the icing is too thick, add more milk, one teaspoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
- Once the rolls are baked, drizzle the cream cheese icing over the warm rolls and enjoy!
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can add a pinch of nutmeg to the filling.
- These rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
- You can freeze the unbaked rolls after slicing; just let them rise and bake them directly from the freezer, adding a few extra minutes to the baking time.
