  • Author: Lily
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

Enjoy a flavorful twist on a classic with these Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes! Juicy ground beef, sautéed veggies, and melted provolone cheese come together on toasted buns, making them perfect for game day or a cozy family dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the chopped onion and green bell pepper. Sauté for about 5 minutes, or until the vegetables are softened and the onion is translucent.
  2. Add the minced garlic and chopped mushrooms (if using) to the skillet. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the garlic is fragrant and the mushrooms have released their moisture.
  3. Next, add the ground beef to the skillet. Use a wooden spoon to break it up into smaller pieces as it cooks. Cook until the beef is browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Make sure to drain any excess fat if necessary.
  4. Once the beef is cooked, stir in the Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine all the flavors.
  5. Pour in the beef broth and bring the mixture to a simmer. Allow it to cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the liquid has reduced slightly and the mixture is thickened.
  6. While the filling is simmering, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Once the filling has thickened, remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the shredded provolone cheese until it’s melted and well combined with the beef mixture.
  8. Slice each hamburger bun in half and place them on a baking sheet, cut side up. Lightly toast them in the oven for about 5 minutes if you prefer a crispy texture.
  9. Spoon a generous amount of the cheesesteak filling onto the bottom half of each bun.
  10. Top each filled bun with the other half of the bun. Optionally, sprinkle fresh parsley on top for garnish.
  11. After assembling the Sloppy Joes, place them back in the oven for an additional 5-10 minutes to melt the cheese further and warm the buns through.
  12. Keep an eye on them to ensure they don’t overcook. You want the cheese to be gooey and the buns to be warm and slightly crispy.
  13. Once done, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a minute or two before serving.
  14. Serve the Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes with a side of crispy fries or a fresh salad.
  15. Consider serving with a side of pickles or jalapeños for added flavor.
  16. These Sloppy Joes are perfect for game day, family gatherings, or a cozy weeknight dinner.
  17. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
