Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ½ cups of all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon of baking soda
- 1 teaspoon of baking powder
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- 1 cup of softened unsalted butter
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup of pure maple syrup
- ½ cup of unsalted butter (for icing)
- 2 cups of powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons of milk (or a non-dairy alternative)
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Prepare the dough: In a large bowl, cream together 1 cup of softened unsalted butter and 1 cup of brown sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the egg and maple syrup: Beat in 1 large egg and ½ cup of pure maple syrup until well combined.
- Mix dry ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together 2 ½ cups of all-purpose flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and ½ teaspoon of salt.
- Combine wet and dry mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!
- Scoop and shape: Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake: Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden and the centers are set but still soft.
- Cool: Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Make the icing: In a saucepan, melt ½ cup of unsalted butter over medium heat. Continue cooking until it turns golden brown and smells nutty. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
- Mix the icing: In a bowl, whisk together the browned butter, 2 cups of powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons of milk (or a non-dairy alternative), and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
- Icing the cookies: Once the cookies are completely cool, drizzle or spread the brown butter icing on top of each cookie.
