Description
Start your day with a delightful Sweet Maple Beef Breakfast Casserole that combines savory beef sausage and sweet maple syrup. This hearty dish is perfect for family gatherings or a cozy brunch.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb sweet maple beef sausage
- 4 cups cubed brioche or whole grain bread
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk or almond/oat milk
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
- 1 to 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sweet maple beef sausage, breaking it apart until browned and fully cooked (about 5-7 minutes). Drain any excess grease.
- Cut the bread into cubes and let it sit out to become slightly stale.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, and season with salt and pepper.
- In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer the bread cubes, followed by the cooked sausage, and sprinkle the cheese over the top.
- Pour the egg mixture over the layered ingredients, ensuring it's evenly distributed.
- Let the casserole sit for about 15-20 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the egg mixture.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the eggs are set.
- Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before slicing and serve warm, optionally drizzled with extra maple syrup.
