Description

Start your day with a delightful Sweet Maple Beef Breakfast Casserole that combines savory beef sausage and sweet maple syrup. This hearty dish is perfect for family gatherings or a cozy brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb sweet maple beef sausage
  • 4 cups cubed brioche or whole grain bread
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk or almond/oat milk
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 to 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sweet maple beef sausage, breaking it apart until browned and fully cooked (about 5-7 minutes). Drain any excess grease.
  3. Cut the bread into cubes and let it sit out to become slightly stale.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, maple syrup, and season with salt and pepper.
  5. In a greased 9×13-inch baking dish, layer the bread cubes, followed by the cooked sausage, and sprinkle the cheese over the top.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the layered ingredients, ensuring it's evenly distributed.
  7. Let the casserole sit for about 15-20 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the egg mixture.
  8. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the eggs are set.
  9. Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before slicing and serve warm, optionally drizzled with extra maple syrup.
